The UFC is currently working towards booking a light heavyweight title rematch for December. Ariel Helwani and MMA Fighting were the first to report that the promotion is targeting Jiri Prochazka (29-3-1) – Glover Teixeira (33-8) 2 for the end of the year.
Both men have made it known that they wanted to run things back and it looks like they will. Right now, their rematch is currently being targeted for UFC 282 on December 10th. Apparently, the promotion really wanted to wait until January when they head back to Brazil.
However, Jiri Prochazka wasn’t a fan of that idea and with him being the UFC champion, they landed on Las Vegas in December. Prochazka capped off an incredible run that saw him become champion back in June at UFC 275.
Prochazka debuted with the promotion back in 2020 with a knockout over Volkan Oezdemir. From there he knocked out Dominick Reyes before earning his shot at Glover Teixeira.
UFC Running it Back
The first fight in June was an All-Time classic. Both men had big moments in the fight imposing their will in their area of expertise. Entering UFC 275, many thought that if the fight stayed standing, Jiri Prochazka would have a big advantage.
Meanwhile if Glover Teixeira could get the fight to the ground, he would dominate. Well, we saw Glover dominate at times on the ground and we saw Jiri dominate at times on the feet. However, in the fifth round, Glover hurt Prochazka bad on the feet.
Then, the former UFC champion made a huge mistake. He went for a guillotine choke and Prochazka slipped out. This allowed Prochazka to recover and gain top position. Later in the round, Prochazka was able to secure a choke during a scramble.
This allowed him to become UFC champ. Prochazka wasn’t happy with the performance and wants to leave no doubt which is why he called for the rematch. This should be a good one in December.
