The UFC is hosting a Fight Night in Austin, Texas in June and we just learned they are bringing one of the more charismatic fighters to the show. Kevin Holland (22-7, 1 NC) will be making his second welterweight appearance against “The Dirty Bird” Tim Means (32-12-1, 1 NC).
Holland announced the news with a video that he posted to social media. The fight will take place at the UFC Fight Night on June 18th. For Tim Means, this is a big opportunity to pick up his fourth consecutive win against a guy with a big following.
Back in March of 2019, Tim Means was knocked out by Niko Price. That loss had him sitting at 2-4 in his last six UFC fights. Things didn’t look great for The Dirty Bird, but he has really turned things around.
Starting in December of 2019, Means is 4-1 in his last five UFC fights including a current three-fight winning streak. The last time we saw Means was June of 2021 when he took on Nicolas Dalby and won a unanimous decision. If he can beat Kevin Holland, it might be time to give The Dirty Bird a ranked opponent.
Holland’s Second UFC Welterweight Appearance
Kevin Holland was on the short-list for Fighter of the Year in 2020 after his stretch at 185 pounds. Holland went an impressive 5-0 with four knockouts including a knockout over legend Jacare Souza that took place at UFC 256.
Those wins catapulted him to a main event against Derek Brunson. Unfortunately for Holland, his defensive wrestling wasn’t where it needed to be and he lost a lopsided decision. From there, he took a short-notice main event against Marvin Vettori and saw the same result.
After taking some time off, he returned last October at a UFC Fight Night to face Kyle Daukaus. After an accidental headbutt led to him getting hurt, the fight was ruled a No Contest. Holland decided to move down to 170 pounds after that.
He made his welterweight debut at UFC 272 when he took on Alex Oliveira. After struggling a little in the first round, Holland knocked out Oliveira in the first minute of the second round. Now, he’s looking to win his second straight at 170 and prove that he’s ready to take on ranked contenders.
