The UFC has finalized a women’s bantamweight matchup for an upcoming Fight Night in San Antonio. Over the weekend, MMA Fighting reported that former bantamweight champion Holly Holm (14-6) would be returning in March when she meets the returning Yana Kunitskaya (14-6).
The matchup takes place on March 25th. For Kunitskaya, this fight will mark her return after she gave birth to her first child with former UFC contender Thiago Santos. Kunitskaya is back training and she’s ready to jump right back inside the octagon.
The last time we saw her was at UFC 264 in July 2021. That night, she saw her two-fight winning streak halted as she was stopped by Irene Aldana in the first round. Prior to that, she had decision wins over Ketlen Vieira and Julija Stoliarenko. Overall, she’s 4-2 in her last six fights inside the octagon.
Former UFC Champion Returns
Back in May, Holly Holm was on the verge of earning another shot at the bantamweight title. After a a year and a half away from the octagon due to injuries, Holm returned to face Ketlen Vieira. Prior to that fight, she had won back-to-back fights over Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana.
Holm looked sensational in the Aldana fight. However, in the Vieira fight, she had a hard time creating distance. There was a lot of clinch fighting and she ultimately lost a close decision. Now, she’s looking to bounce back as she’s still seeking another UFC title run.
