No. 10: Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is entering a new era with head coach John Harbaugh being hired this offseason. Following a National Championship-winning season in the NCAA as the head coach of Michigan, Harbaugh is aiming to collect more hardware in California. Herbert will be a big part of that as he aims to bounce back from a down year in 2023-24. Herbert has already racked up over 17,000 career passing yards through four seasons but has a career 30-32 all-time record as a starter. Stacking up some wins this season will make him an MVP candidate.
No. 9: Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love cashed in this offseason with a record-breaking five-year, $220 million contract after an impressive first season as a starter. He threw for 4,159 yards and 31 touchdowns last season, leading the Packers to an NFC Conference Championship appearance. The future is bright for the Packers’ latest superstar signal-caller.

No. 8: San Fransisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey
A running back has not won league MVP since Adrian Peterson back in 2012. But if any running back is going to end that drought, it will be San Fransisco 49ers superstar Christian McCaffrey. The reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year finished third in MVP voting last season after posting league highs in total yards from scrimmage (2,023) and combined touchdowns (21).
No. 7: San Fransisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy
San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting last season after leading his team to a 12-4 regular-season record behind 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. Purdy’s 72.8 QBR was the best in the NFL. He led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance and will be hungry to hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.

No. 6: Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott was last year’s runner-up for the league MVP award after throwing a league-high 36 touchdown passes. He threw for a career-high 4,516 passing yards last season as he led the Dallas Cowboys’ high-flying offense to a 12-5 record. Entering a contract year, Prescott will be playing with a chip on his shoulder in 2024-25.
No. 5: Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was an MVP candidate as a rookie last season as he threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns in 15 starts en route to the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Stroud’s 1.0% interception rate was the best in the NFL. Entering his second season, the sky is the limit for Stroud.
No. 4: Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow
Injuries got the better of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow last season, but at his best, Joe Cool is one of the best signal-callers in the NFL and a perennial MVP candidate. The Bengals’ offense is loaded up with talent entering this season and Burrow will have a plethora of weapons to target in the passing game. 2021’s Comeback Player of the Year will aim to bounce back and potentially win that award for the second time in 2024-25.
No. 3: Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is the league’s reigning MVP. He has won the award twice in his career and is coming off a 2023-24 season in which he led the Ravens to a 13-3 record as the starting quarterback, totaling a career-high 3,678 passing yards with 24 touchdowns passing and an additional 821 yards and five touchdowns rushing.
No. 2: Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen
Josh Allen has made the Buffalo Bills perennial postseason contenders every year since his breakout campaign in 2020. Allen has finished in the top five in MVP voting three times in his career and has finished with over 4,200 passing yards in each of the last four seasons. Allen has the potential to put up big numbers once again and maintain his value as an MVP candidate this season.
No. 1: Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the best football player in the world. He and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the third time in six years this past season. Mahomes is a two-time MVP and two-time first-team All-Pro. Every year that he is in the league, he’ll be a top MVP candidate as he continues to fill out his resume and chase Tom Brady for the GOAT label.
