The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball, and their rise to the top of the MLB standings resulted in their ascension on a recent MLB Power Rankings. Matt Snyder of CBS Sports had the Yankees overtake the Philadelphia Phillies for the network’s No. 1 placement on their Power Rankings released on June 3.

Between the time of their previous updated rankings on May 28 and then, New York went 5-1, having dropped the first game in their three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels before sweeping the San Francisco Giants in their ensuing trilogy. The Yankees scored seven or more runs in three of those matchups, continuing their high scoring in the 2024 season.

In those six games, the Yanks slashed .245/.325/.461 with a .786 OPS, nine home runs, and 30 RBIs. Their pitching staff produced a strikeout-to-walk rate of four and allowed no stolen bases behind a 2.89 ERA. The Yankees delivered on all areas of the field.

Further, the Bronx Bombers are now 8-2 in their last 10 games since improving to 43-19 in a 5-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. Only the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles have posted a record that’s as good or better than them in that span. Juan Soto is heavily touted as the MVP favorite in the American League.

Aaron Judge is giving him a run for his money while re-establishing himself as the most feared hitter in the Majors, all while the Yankees’ pitching staff is dominating the big leagues with AL Cy Young award winner Gerrit Cole inching closer to his return.

According to Baseball Reference, the Yankees now have 99.9 percent odds to make the playoffs, and 14.8 percent odds to win the World Series.
