The perks of a team dominating an MLB season is earning several All-Star nods. That’s what the New York Yankees are in line for this summer, and in a major way.
The first 2024 MLB All-Star ballots came back on Monday, showing five Yankees position players ranking in the top three at their respective slots, and another coming in the top-six. They include shortstop Anthony Volpe (No. 3, 339,150 votes), outfielders Aaron Judge (No. 1 overall, 1,366,315 votes), Juan Soto (No. 2, 1,250,020 votes), and Alex Verdugo (No. 6, 293,984 votes) catcher Jose Trevino (No. 3, 234,469 votes) and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (No. 2, 408,610).
This does not take into account pitching, which could see the Yankees look like the American League All-Stars on game day. New York’s contenders for starting nods are all excelling in respective categories that deserve recognition from the league and the fans.
Yankees’ outfielders are in great standing thanks to stellar play in the field & at the plate
As is expected of the former 2022 AL MVP, Judge is once again leading the Majors with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs. This is especially impressive considering the mighty struggles he experienced in the first few weeks of the season. Alongside him is Soto. Considered by many to be the MVP favorite in the AL, the Dominican slugger is behind only Judge with a 1.018 OPS in 2024. His .312 batting average explains how effective he’s been at the plate this year.
Verdugo has been a welcomed addition for the Yankees and has done damage with his glove. He owns an unblemished fielding percentage with 151 putouts, one double play turned, and no errors in 2024.
- The Yankees should go all-in on controversial trade for Twins’ star shortstop
- Yankees ‘renew’ contract talks with star free agent first baseman
- Yankees could punch back and land Mets star slugger
Yankees have a standout infielder, battery player & DH that are dominating in 2024
Volpe ranks No. 5 among all shortstops with 15 stolen bases. The reigning Gold Glove winner has raised his batting average from .209 in 2023 to .272 in 2024.
A large part of why the Yankees have allowed the eighth-fewest stolen bases per game in 2024 (0.7) is because of Trevino’s awareness and arm behind the plate. He’s also seventh among catchers with eight home runs. Rounding out the Yankees’ top vote-getters is Stanton, who is experiencing a renaissance age-34 season in New York with 18 homers on the campaign. The Yankees are 16-2 in the 18 games he’s homered in.
The Yankees have a real shot of having all of the aforementioned stars take the field first for the AL in the All-Star game. Starters will be announced on Wednesday, July 3, and full rosters on July 7 ahead of the ASG on July 16.
