Opening day couldn’t have started better for the New York Yankees, as Giancarlo Stanton hit a Santonian blast to left field, traveling 459 feet.

With Max Scherzer on the mound, the Yankees had a tall task heading into Opening Dat. Scherzer posted 2.92 ERA with 243 strikeouts in 2019, ranking third in Cy Young voting and 22nd in MVP voting.

Stanton showed off his immense power in the first inning, driving in Aaron Judge to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

Last season, Stanton only played in 18 games, hitting three home runs. He has already hit a third of that amount in just one inning this year. If he can remain healthy, he will be a focal point for the Yankees moving forward.
