The New York Yankees entered Thursday with confidence that their $324 million white whale in Gerrit Cole would slaughter the Detroit Tigers in their 1 PM outing.

Well, that premonition didn’t come to fruition, as Cole was torn apart, giving up a double and back-to-back homers to start off the game on a windy day. Maybe, Cole is human after all.

Cole, who signed a record-breaking deal with the Yankees, is expected to be their ace and grounding force in 2020, especially after the injuries to Luis Severino and James Paxton. His first outing of spring training went perfectly, but this was a blip on the radar. Nothing to be concerned about, but something to keep an eye on as the wind/weather might have affected his play.

The Bronx will offer plenty of weather-related struggles for Cole to adapt to.
