The current MLB lockout will likely continue indefinitely, since the league and the Players Association couldn’t reach an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) before the owners-imposed Monday deadline (later pushed back to Tuesday). This situation has a heavy impact on the New York Yankees.
Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the suspension of the first two series of the season, and more could be on the way if the two sides don’t agree on a new CBA quickly because players need around three or four weeks of spring training.
These lost games results, naturally, in lost money for players. Of course, those who make the league minimum are the ones who will suffer the most, but in sheer money, those with the highest salaries are slated to lose exorbitant amounts.
The Yankees, for example, will lose seven games: Four against the Texas Rangers and three vs. the Houston Astros. As of now, their Opening Day would be scheduled for April 7 against the Boston Red Sox in Yankee Stadium, per NJ Advance Media.
