The Yankees have one player who can save the day as pitching declines rapidly

New York Yankees, Deivi Garcia

After a disheartening lost the New York Mets on Thursday evening, the New York Yankees are will face off against the Baltimore Orioles in a doubleheader on Friday.

In a makeup situation, the Yankees will now embark on a seven-game away stretch, with young pitcher Deivi Garcia taking the mound in the first away game in Baltimore.

The starting pitching for the Yankees has been tumultuous the past few games, with the bullpen really showing their flaws. The offense finally sparked a bit against the Mets on Thursday, scoring seven runs, but the last time they had that much production was back on August 30, and before then, you would have to date back to August 15.

The catalyst behind the New York Yankees’ struggles:

Without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, and James Paxton, the Yankees have been an absolute mess. Their lack of slugger support and homerun-centric efficiency has completely fallen off.

The Yankees have utilized players like Tyler Wade, who is hitting .167, Thairo Estrada, who is hitting .231, and a bevy of other options who haven’t been able to uplift the team. Even promising first baseman Mike Ford is hitting .169 with a .339 slugging percentage.

However, the Yankees need some positive momentum, and their young starting pitcher, Deivi Garcia, can offer them an opportunity. In his first start of the season and MLB debut against the Mets last week, he pitched 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed just four hits. At 21 years old, he showed the stuff of a major leaguer and one that has a bright future ahead. At the trade deadline, general manager Brian Cashman was fielding offers for Garcia, who is considered one of the best prospects in baseball.

Clearly, Cashman was not keen on giving him away, even if it was for a starting pitcher like Mike Clevinger. Some might argue that acquiring proven talent will always be a more efficient move, but Garcia has early comps to Pedro Martinez, and if he continues to develop the way he currently is, the Yankees gonna have themselves one of the best young arms in baseball moving forward.

Can he save the day? I sure think he can.
