In 2019, Domingo German was one of the New York Yankees‘ best pitchers.  His ERA was about four, but it was skewed from a few bad starts.

However, later in the season, recent domestic assault allegations were made against him and he was suspended for the remainder of 2019 and will stay suspended until June of 2020. In my opinion, the team should look to trade him.

Why I Think So:

On the baseball side of things, the Yankees already have six starting pitchers: Gerrit Cole, Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, Luis Severino, JA Happ, and Jordan Montgomery. Having him would leave too many starters. If they wanted to keep him, they would have to either trade both Happ and Montgomery, or trade Happ, push Montgomery to the bullpen, and move a reliever.

The Yankees would get a great return for German in a trade. With him being a young up-and-coming pitcher, a lot of teams would give the Yankees a lot for him. They could get more draft picks and international signing pool money to continue to build up their farm system. That’s if the domestic allegations don’t bother the front office of other teams.

That would probably be the main thing holding back a trade. Most teams don’t want to deal with that, but it doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t for a pitcher that they really want on their team.

I think that with how many starting pitchers the team has and his domestic allegations, the Yankees should consider trading Domingo German. It could help better their future and they would have to stop worrying about the domestic allegations and more problems to come. It may be difficult to find a trade, but if they can find one, they should go for it.
