When Gleyber Torres first put on the New York Yankees pinstripes, we all thought he would be good. He has taken the definition of “good,” hit it through the window and claimed “great” for his own.

The 21 year-old phenom has taken the MLB by the horns and tamed the unfortunate pitchers that have faced off against him. Torres is currently hitting .291 over 175 at bats.

What’s the most impressive stat for the Yankees second baseman?

Torres has cranked a whopping 14 homers since entering the big-leagues, far more than was expected of him. He was known to be a stellar hitter, but he has displayed power that has surprised even the likes of his coaches.

“He’s kind of wowed us a lot,” Boone said , according to MLB.com. “I think what I meant by that was kind of an overwhelming tool or a flashy tool that sometimes you see right away from the elite prospects in the sport. He’s not a fast runner. It’s not light-tower power. Everything’s really good. He has a shortstop’s throwing arm. He’s really shown good range at second base — more range than I anticipated, frankly.

His overall tool set is immense. He doesn’t struggle at any specific aspect of the game, he’s good or very good in every facet.

To put into perspective his incredible hitting, Aaron Judge currently has 18 home-runs in 255 at bats and Giancarlo Stanton has 17 in 270. Statistically, we can assume that over 250 at bats Torres would have 20 home-runs. That’s more than both of the Yankee’s power hitters.

Injury News:

Torres was spotted with an ice pack on his right shoulder following the 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. While it mat just be soreness after a lengthy playing schedule, it might be something to watch for.

“I think he kind of slept on it funny a couple of nights ago. He is fine. He said he feels good,’’ manager Aaron Boone said of his second baseman.

“I have been looking to get him a day off at some point and this didn’t cause me to expedite that day off. It’s just something that he is maintaining.’’

Luckily, the ailment doesn’t seem to be serious, and we should expect Boone to give him a day off in the coming weeks. He deserves it after all.
