Red Sox catcher takes unexpected shot at Yankees after being swept

Christian Vazquez

The New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox over the weekend, and some would say it was quite an easy task. The Bombers utilized some of their more inefficient pitchers to get the job done, and the Red Sox barely were able to compete, with their closest game being 4-2 on Sunday evening.

However, Boston catcher Christian Vazquez was extremely hurt by his team sweeping. They have lost seven games straight.

Vazquez took an unexpected shot at the Yankees, clearly showing his frustration.

“I think the only thing I can tell is they have no rings. I have one,” Vazquez told reporters. “We beat them in the playoffs. I like my ring.”

This is a defense used by many fans and players across sports. If you’re a Giants fan, you reference the two Super Bowl rings in 2007 and 2010 to defend your team. If you are a Jets fan, well, there’s not much to say there. Yankee fans reference their 27 rings frequently to justify the dominance of their team, and rightfully so. Rings represent success, and while Boston won a World Series a few years ago, the Yankees have been competitive for far longer. With Boston taking their team to a Triple-A level, the Bombers are far and away the better team.

The New York Yankees have a competitive series ahead:

Nonetheless, the Yankees will proceed into the week with a zesty matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa currently hosts the second-best record in the AL East at 14-9. They are a fantastic team that will feature Blake Snell in their first matchup of the series.
The Yankees are 2.5 games ahead but are without Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and DJ LeMahieu. Their offense has managed to supplement those losses to a degree, but the Rays are an entirely different beast.
I fully expect manager Aaron Boone to rely on his pitching to keep the score low. Luckily, they have Masahiro Tanaka, Gerrit Cole, and James Paxton lined up for the three games against Tampa.
