It was 80 degrees at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida, where the New York Yankees met the Blue Jays at their home park on Wednesday. The game was played under partly sunny skies.  The Blue Jays sent out RHP Nate Pearson to face a Yankee lineup that included the spring training debut of Mike Tauchman in left field.   Pearson started the first inning striking out Tyler Wade, Miguel Andujar, and Mike Tauchman in an impressive inning.

After an exciting Blue Jays first inning RHP Nick Tropeano took the mound for the Yankees.  Interestingly Andujar was playing shortstop to begin the game.

Trop struck out Fisher, Grichuk grounded out to Trop to Voit for the second out. Joe Panik flew out to Tauchman in left for the final out of the first.  At the top of the second Luke Voit faced Julian Merryweather, who struck out. Kyle Higashioka also struck out for the fifth strikeout a row for Yankee hitters.

Chris Iannetta then doubled beyond the left fielder. Thairo Estrada singled driving in Iannetta from second for the early one-run lead for the Yankees.  Milone ended the inning by flying out to left. Tropeano came out for the second, and Guerrero Jr singled past first.  Travis Shaw singled, Voit threw to second, but Wade was off the bag allowing Guerrero to reach. Hernandez singled, and the Yankees got the force out at second.  McGuire grounded out, causing the Jays to remain scoreless.

Patrick Murphy took over for Merryweather in the third.  Trey Amburgey struck out swinging, bringing Tyler Wade to the plate who also struck out. (if you recall Murphy was the toe tap pitcher that got the balk call. Over the offseason he had to retool his delivery completely) Andujar ended the half striking out. Luis Cessa pitched the bottom of the third who downed Alford but allowed a single to Espinal. Fisher stuck out, and Higashioka, in a terrific play, got Espinal at second for the strike em out throw em out inning-ending play. Mike Tauchman started off the fourth facing reliever A.J.Cole and grounded out, followed by Luke Voit, doubling on a roller to the wall.  Higashioka flew out, and Iannetta, who scored the first run, walked.  Estrada popped out, leaving two runners aboard.

At the bottom of the fourth Yankee, Luis Avilan faced Grichuk, who grounded out.  Joe Panik stuck out, and Vlad Jr. was out due to a great play by Wade at short, who threw to Voit for the inning ended out.  In the top of the fifth Yennsy Diaz  Milone stuck out Milone, Amburgey, and in a spectacular Gold Glove diving play, Joe Panik threw out the speedy Tyler Wade at first.  Tyler Lyons pitching in the bottom of the fifth struck out, Shaw, then Estrada threw out Hernandez, and McGuire made it a one-two-three inning for Lyons.  At the top of the sixth, the Yankees faced Diaz again.  Andujar made it 10 strikeouts for the Yankees. Brandon Lockridge in for Tauchman flew out.  Voit followed by popping out.   In the bottom, Brooks Kriske came out for the Yankees,  Alford struck out, Espinal homered to tie up the score at one. Conine struck out, and Moreno struck out to retire the said, but the Jays tied the game up at one apiece.

Phillippe Aumont faced Higgy who walked, Iannetta singled (Sawyer pinch-runner for Iannetta), Estrada struck out, Herrera lined to the left-field wall driving in both runners for the Yankee’s 3-1 lead.  Herrera scored on a wide throw for the 4-1 Yankee lead.   Moving on to the bottom of the eighth,  Brian Keller pitched for the Yankees putting down the side.  Jackson McClelland opened up the ninth for the Jays against Kellin Deglan, who immediately doubles off the left-field line. Sawyer followed striking out; Hoy Jun Park, in his first plate appearance, also stuck out.  Herrera made the third out, leaving Deglan at second.

With last licks for the Jays coming up in the bottom of the ninth, Daniel Alvarez took the mound to save it for the Yankees. Vicuna flew out, Conine singled, Moreno struck out, and Logan Warmoth grounded out to end it for the Toronto Blue Jays, and the 4-1 Yankees win, their first of the spring season.  Yankee pitching combined for 13 strikeouts in the game.
