New York Yankees Previews: Gerrit Cole goes for his fifth win tonight at the Stadium

Gerrit Cole, New York Yankees

The New York Yankees hope to bounce back from their first loss of the season at Yankee Stadium. In last night’s game, Masahiro Tanaka gave up five earned runs in the loss.  The Yankees so far this season have had the toughest time playing against the Tampa Bay Rays. So far, their record off the Rays is 1-4.  Tonight Yankee ace Gerrit Cole hopes to return the Yankees to their winning ways.

In the Yankees series of the season, they won their first appearance at Nationals Park against the World Champion Washington Nationals, they went on to take the series from the Baltimore Orioles, and then a three-game series from the Red Sox. They then split a series with the Phillies. Then they hit a wall at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays, when they lost 3 of 4 games.  Also, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge were injured in the series and are still on the IL.

Coming back from that debacle, the Yankees regained their winning ways, sweeping a series from the Atlanta Braves and a four-game sweep of the Red Sox. Last night the Yankee “B” squad also missing DJ LeMahieu, couldn’t figure out the Ray’s Blake Snell.  Tonight they hope to get back on track when they put Gerrit Cole on the mound.

Tonight’s game is at 7:05 pm and will be televised on the YES Network and FoxSportsSun. Gerrit Cole will face the Ray’s Tyler Glasnow.  The game-time temperature will be in the mid-’70s, under partly cloudy skies with just a minor chance of a passing shower.

At the top of the first inning, the Yankee’s winningest pitcher ace Gerrit Cole will take the mound. The Yankees have won all of Cole’s starts this season.  He will be going for his fifth win. In his last outing against the Red Sox, he allowed one run over seven innings in the Yankee win.  It was his 20th straight regular-season win, placing him third all-time, in MLB history in consecutive wins. Tonight may well be the toughest lineup that Cole has faced this season.

The Yankees will face the Ray’s Tyler Glasnow.  The last time the Yankees faced him, he lasted only 2.2 innings, in the Yankees only win of the last Yankees, Rays series. In Glasnow’s last two games he has allowed 9 runs over 6 2/3 innings. Glasnow against the Yankees, is 0-2 in his last three starts facing the New York Yankees. Glasnow has a 7.04 ERA on the season.

Tomorrow in a 1:05 pm matinee game, the Yankees James Paxton will face a yet to be determined Tampa Bay Ray pitcher.
