Amid all the happiness and joy regarding the signing of Gerrit Cole, former New York Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was planning his version of “The Grinch Stole Christmas,” or rather “The Grinch Stole Millions of Dollars on Christmas.”

Ellsbury and the Yankees are preparing to go to battle over the $26 million still owed for the 2020 season, as the MLBPA has filed a grievance in an attempt to regain the money owed to Jacoby. In November, the Yankees converted Ellsbury’s $153 million deal to a non-guaranteed one before releasing him, essentially stating, “no Grinch, we will not pay you to steal Christmas.”

The Yankees claimed that Ellsbury received treatment from an unauthorized doctor that wasn’t connected to the team, which could have re-aggravated any existing injuries.

Ellsbury hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2017, and he continues to sit on the couch and collect money for rehabilitation. Doesn’t being paid $26 million to work out sound nice?

This leads us into our Yankees rumors/news of the day:

When Gerrit Cole dug through his parent’s house to find a sign he made for the 2001 World Series, he probably imagines it would give the fan-base a glimpse into just how big a fan he has been all these years. Instead, the New York media turned it into a parody. Welcome to the city that never sleeps, Gerrit.

Take a look at some of these hilarious photoshopped pictured of the Cole holding the sign:

Classic New York. We can’t even let the guy enjoyed 20 minutes in the spotlight before the entire world takes a shot at his clean-shaven baby-face. Maybe, Aaron Boone should amend the rules just for Cole, who wore the beard a lot better, and in this brisk weather, he’s probably wondering why he chose the Big Apple.

Nonetheless, the Yankees have the best pitcher in baseball for at least the next five years, but hopefully, he’s dominant for the next nine.
