The New York Yankees made some interesting changes on Thursday morning at the left-field position. After Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies, where they split the games one apiece, manager Aaron Boone decided to send Miguel Andujar to the alternate site.

Andujar started game one at third base and game two in left field, finishing 0-for-6. He recorded two strikeouts and currently hosts a .083 batting average. After he allowed a bad error in field last week against the Boston Red Sox, which could have lost them the game, Boone has finally made a decision to send him to the taxi squad waiting site.

What does this mean for the other New York Yankees players in field?

Yankees still have Brett Gardner and Mike Tauchman out in left, and both have seen an elevation in their play. Gardner has four hits on the year, three of them being home runs. He has struck out eight times and walked four times, but his recent increase in offensive production has allowed him to maintain his stay with the top team.

However, Mike Tauchman is the man we should all be talking about. Tauchman started off his campaign in excellent form, earning five hits, three stolen bases, and two walks through 14 at-bats.

Ultimately, Tauchman serves multiple purposes on defense and has a .357 batting average with a .438 on-base percentage. He has been stellar, and there’s no way around it. He has earned the right to start in left field every day, but Boone is keen on getting Gardner in the mix frequently.

Is also opens the door for Clint Frazier. The Yankees could give him an opportunity in the coming days. He has been waiting patiently at the alternate site, and despite Boone stating he could be a starter on most MLB teams, he hasn’t been able to crack the Yankees’ ranks. Sending Andujar down could give him an opportunity if Gardner struggles at the plate, and they need a supplement with a known offensive mentality.
