Luis Severino is on his way to be being back in pinstripes for the New York Yankees as his rehab starts have gone exceptionally well. There’s a large chance that his next start is in the majors with the Yankees.
The 25-year-old completed his second rehab start with the double-A affiliate Trenton Thunder. In three innings of work, Severino fanned five while allowing a homer.
“Overall, it was pretty successful,” said manager Aaron Boone. “We’ll talk about whether one more (minor league start) is beneficial or (he’ll come with us.†Boone indicated that the Yankees will have a discussion over the next day or two about the next step for Severino.
“His arm strength is there, which is a big thing,” said pitching coach Larry Rothschild. “It’s been a long time since he’s pitched. That game with Scranton was really his first game activity since spring training.”

Severino threw 50 pitches in his outing. He told reporters following the game that he feels like he could get back to 90-100 pitches before the season ends. It seems that Severino he hoping he can return back to his starter role for the big club.
Another Yankee who hasn’t seen an inning in the majors is Dellin Betances. He’s been dealing with a similar injury that Severino had. Betances has started his rehab assignment where threw a scoreless inning for Trenton.
It is expected that both right-handers make a comeback this season. The Yankees anticipate that they could make an impact during the postseason.
