New York Yankees: How real of a possibility is Gerrit Cole?

Could the Yankees pursue Gerrit Cole this offseason?

New York Yankee fans were furious when general manager Brian Cashman and the front office failed to make a move for a starting pitcher before the July 31st deadline. The Yankees now have another chance with the free-agent pool.

Houston ace Gerrit Cole is entering free agency and is most likely looking for a new team. But here’s the catch: after his unbelievable season, Cole is most likely looking for around $300 million and several years. Good thing for the Yankees, they have the money to do so.

It’s no question the Yankees lacked starting pitching this season. Even though that’s not what ultimately ended their season, there really wasn’t a guy the Yankees had that every time he stepped on the mound they knew they had a great chance of winning.

If the Yankees really want to turn around this 10-year drought, they need to make a big move in the offseason. Gerrit Cole can be their guy. He’s already proved that he can pitch in the big stage, shutting down the Nationals in Game 5 in Washington. Not to mention, the guy is a stud! 20-5 record on the season with 326 strikeouts, he just knows how to pitch.

Whatever Cole wants, give it to him. If he doesn’t take it and signs elsewhere? At least we tried. The fact that the Yankees barely even tried during last season’s trade deadline was infuriating. They knew what they lacked, and didn’t even bother to try and fix it.

The Yankees have a pretty good shot at getting him too. Cole is going to want to go to a good team where he can continue to build his career while also getting paid. The Yankees have both those in store for him.
