The New York Yankees might have just lost another player due to injury after third baseman Gio Urshela was plunked on the hand by a fastball on Tuesday night.
Urshela stayed in the game but left shortly after as his left hand began to blow up and was visibly black and blue. This could be an indication of a broken hand, a potentially serious injury. A fractured hand would theoretically end Gio’s season and would scratch the Yankees’ best defensive player from the lineup for the playoffs.
With the Yankees already without Edwin Encarnacion and Gleyber Torres working through fatigued legs, losing Urshela would be catastrophic.
Gio Urshela drilled on the left hand/wrist by a Diego Castillo fastball. Looks like he will stay in the game.

If Urshela is forced to miss any time, DJ LeMahieu would slide over to third base and Luke Voit would stick at first, his normal position. The Yanks could survive with these infielders but Gio’s influence this season has been essential and they cannot afford to lose his quality on the hot corner or in the batting order.
UPDATED–
X-rays have come back negative and Urshela escapes with a bruised hand.
