Before New York Yankees top pitching prospect, Deivi Garcia’s last start on August 17, he allowed a total ten runs in his previous three performances.
On Saturday, Garcia tossed five no-hit innings, striking out seven batters but walked five. The Yankees could look to pull up the 21-year-old righty this season as a relief option.
With the starting rotation struggling immensely, manager Aaron Boone has been forced to dip into his bullpen far too early and games to supplement the lack of effectiveness from the starters. This has been a severe issue that could cause fatigue for the postseason and hurt the entire team and their hopes for a World Series appearance.

The offense has excellent run production, but all it takes is a string of too bad games, and they can find themselves behind in a playoff series. Moving forward, the starters need to perform better, and Garcia could be a good option in the bullpen to help supplement the deficiencies that seem to be growing every day.
While the Yankees could look to Garcia for help, he has struggled in AAA with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at times. He is currently 1-3 on the season in Scranton, averaging about five innings per game. His worst game came on July 31 where he allowed six run on eight hits over five innings. Seemingly better than the Yankees starters have been providing in recent weeks.
However, the quality of hitters is exponentially different, and he would likely get shelled as a starter at this point in his career. Coming in as a relief option where they can ease him into shape would be the ideal scenario for him to make his first major league impact.
