While the New York Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves in a two-game series this past week, star slugger Aaron Judge was pulled from the final game in the fifth inning after a solo home run. As he rounded second base, he showed a slight grimace of pain, but nothing seemed to be constituting a spell on the injured list. Judge makes facial expressions all the time, but this one was more real than the rest.
Judge was seen hanging out in the dugout for a few minutes before disappearing into the clubhouse. With the Yankees leading 8-0 at the time, pulling him was expected to be rest related. Nonetheless, manager Aaron Boone came out and said he was experiencing “lower body tightness.” That transformed into a grade-1 calf strain that landed him on the injured list. However, several days after the fact, Judge seems to be in great shape and was reportedly “begging†not to be put on the list prior to the series against the Boston Red Sox.
Here’s what New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge had to say:
“I’ve been healthy and been feeling great. This is the best I’ve felt in a while. I’m pretty frustrated, being put on the IL for something that’s just a couple of days thing.â€
“This kind of shows how much the organization cares for me and looks out for my well-being,” Judge said in regard for their concern over his calf injury. “They don’t want me to go out there and push it. I can’t be frustrated with this organization. I’m frustrated with myself not being out there.â€
