New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres has been a massive part of the team over the past two seasons. Called up in the early part of 2018, Torres has made an enormous impact ever since his debut.

The now 23-year-old of Venezuela bat .278 in 2019, driving in 90 and hitting 38 home runs. He had a .535 slugging and a .841 OPS. Torres has been an all-star in both seasons, finished third in the 2018 Rookie of the Year award, and 17th in the 2019 MVP award.

Hitting towards the middle of the order, Torres is always a reliable option. He can do everything, from hitting a home run to going the other way for a pair of RBIs.

2020 Expectations

The Yankees have big expectations for Torres in 2020, but his role will be changing.

In his first two MLB seasons, he played second base despite coming up as a shortstop. In 2020, he will be going back to his primary position. Didi Gregorius signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, opening a spot at shortstop. Filling Torres’s spot at second will be DJ LeMahieu, who played everywhere in 2019.

The team needs Torres to keep doing what he did in 2019. They want him to continue to play good defense and be a smart baserunner. On offense, they need him to maintain a high average with high power numbers. The 38 home runs that he hit in 2019 were massive, and they need that again.

It would be great if the Yankees can get another all-star season out of him. Torres has MVP potential, and he’s only 23 years old. He’s still a few years away from his prime, and in his prime, he could be the most feared batter in baseball.
