This offseason was great for the New York Yankees. They improved their number one problem last season, which was pitching, dramatically. They also got new coaching and a new head trainer since last season was a nightmare with injuries. Everything is pointing to another successful year for the New York Yankees in 2020.

These two players have the biggest weight on their shoulders for 2020 from Yankee fans, the rest of Major League Baseball, and themselves. Now more than ever, the Yankees have so many eyes watching them and so many people expecting them to win number 28 that the pressure is on.

Gerrit Cole

Coming off one of the best seasons ever recorded by a pitcher, Gerrit Cole must have all the weight in the world on his shoulders. Signing a record-breaking deal and coming to the bright lights of New York City is not an easy thing regardless of how talented you are.

I believe that Cole has shown that he can deal with this pressure. The Houston atmosphere is similar to the Bronx, especially during the postseason, and he succeeded when he was on the hill for his team. Everyone is expecting him to put up the same numbers from last year since he has a new team and a huge contract, but that might just be impossible. Even though he most likely won’t match the numbers from last year, he’s going to be a huge part of the Yankees as they chase championship number 28 this season.

Giancarlo Stanton

There’s nobody else in the league that receives more slander and hate from their own fans than Giancarlo Stanton. I hate to see it too because people forget how good of a ballplayer Stanton is.

If Stanton remains healthy for the entire year, I can see him really getting into a groove and being great for the team this year. I think he’s been in New York for long enough that he can finally get comfortable in the spotlight and be a big part of the club this season.
