The batters struggling was expected, given the amount of time that has passed between the shut down of the MLB and its return. With the start of the regular season a few weeks away, the Yankees will be looking to get as much action as possible to prepare their players. They will open the season against the defending champs (Washington Nationals) at 7:08 PM on Thursday, July 23.
Some more insight into the Yankees schedule: The Yankees will play two series against the Boston Red Sox. Both of which come in August. They will also enjoy a subway series against the New York Mets. The first starts on August 21 and again on August 28. It seems as if the league has set up exciting matchups for the Yankees. Hopefully, this will bring more excitement.
