MLB releases 2021 calendar: New York Yankees to open the season at home vs. Toronto

Planning ahead, Major League Baseball (MLB) is already looking at next season, as we draw closer to the delayed 2020 MLB Opening Day, the league released the calendar for next year on Thursday. The New York Yankees already know who they will play in 2021, when and where.

Next season’s Opening Day is scheduled to be on April 1, at Yankee Stadium against the up-and-coming Toronto Blue Jays.

The New York Yankees’ official Twitter account uploaded a video with the highlights of next year’s schedule.
If you were wondering when the first game against the arch-rivals Boston Red Sox would be, it is scheduled to be at Yankee Stadium on June 4.

Beginning on July 2, 2021, the New York Yankees will play the Mets in another edition of the Subway Series. In addition, the calendar also has the Yankees visiting Citi Field to play the Mets on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

It is unclear if the Yankees, the Mets or MLB will have something special planned for that evening.

Other dates of interest for the 2021 Yankees

Former Yankees Didi Gregorius and manager Joe Giradi, now with the Philadelphia Phillies, will visit the Bronx on July 20. It won’t be the first time they return to their former home, though, as they will play in a couple of weeks this season in the shortened 60-game calendar.

Other dates that could interest Yankees and other team’s fans alike are the All-Star Game, slated to take place on July 13, and the ending of the regular season, scheduled for October 3.

Opening Day, for this year’s season, will be on July 23. The Yankees will travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Nationals, who are the last World Series champions. It is widely presumed that Max Scherzer and Gerrit Cole will take the mound that night.
