Carlos Lagrange generated tons of buzz during Spring Training, and the Yankees are expected to unleash him at some point during the 2026 season.

The right-hander has caught the attention of ESPN reporter Jeff Passan, who is one of the most accurate and credible sources in all of North American sports.

He went on Blair & Barker, a show on Sportsnet 590 The FAN to discuss some of the early storylines around baseball and dropped this nugget about Lagrange:

I think he’s gonna be in the Yankees bullpen in the second half of the season.

It’s hard not to be excited about what the flamethrower can do, as his Spring Training performance propelled up from the no. 4 to no. 2 prospect in the system in our pre-season rankings.

If the Yankees are in need of some power pitching during their playoff chase, Carlos Lagrange could be waiting in the wings for them to call up.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan isn’t alone in believing that he could be on this big-league team soon, manager Aaron Boone described it as a tough decision to ultimately send the fireballer down.

His sizzling fastball that tops out at 103 MPH and the array of wipeout secondaries that he possesses makes it difficult for hitters to keep up with his movement profile, and he flashed that electric stuff during the Grapefruit League.

He made his Triple-A debut in Buffalo last week, tossing four innings of one-run baseball in cold weather while picking up three strikeouts and issuing zero free passes.

Whether the Yankees choose to call him up as a starter or not in 2026 remains to be seen, but it seems the team’s needs throughout the season will influence the decision heavily.

Even if the team believes that he is presently one of their eight best relievers, the potential he has to become a frontline ace is too appetizing for the organization to pass up on.

Continuing to display better command will certainly sway opinions on whether he is or is not a future MLB starter, and the Yankees will give him every chance to prove he can do it in a rotation role.
