The New York Yankees hand may have been forced this morning when the Yankee’s first baseman announced his retirement from baseball. The Yankees will now have to decide to keep DJ LeMahieu first or bring up Mike Ford and Chris Gittens.

The retirement of Jay Bruce was first reported by Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports reporter. Bruce was never supposed to make the team, but with the knee surgery of Luke Voit, he was the Yankee’s starting first baseman. This was somewhat unfair for Bruce as he was an outfielder by trade for most of his career with limited experience at first base. For the most part, he failed far too often making plays and had the team-worst batting average.
