As reported Tuesday night by multiple sources, the New York Rangers will buy out the contract of their longtime legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

Since January, when Igor Shesterkin was promoted from Hartford, there was much speculation that the Rangers would not keep three goaltenders for long. In all, Lundqvist appeared in a career-low 30 games this season as the Rangers gave more time to Alexandar Georgiev and Shesterkin.

The long-expected move will end Lundqvist’s 15-year tenure with the team.

More details will follow when the Rangers confirm the buyout.
