Since January, when Igor Shesterkin was promoted from Hartford, there was much speculation that the Rangers would not keep three goaltenders for long. In all, Lundqvist appeared in a career-low 30 games this season as the Rangers gave more time to Alexandar Georgiev and Shesterkin.
The long-expected move will end Lundqvist’s 15-year tenure with the team.
More details will follow when the Rangers confirm the buyout.
