The MLB trade deadline is less than a day away, and I for one am grateful. No more trade Clint Frazier stories, no more the Yankees need another starter stories and no more ridiculous fake trades.  There is nobody available in a trade that represents a significant enough upgrade to be worth the price teams are asking for right now. See below:

Player A: 7-5  4.33 with 1.26 WHIP

Player B: 7-6 4.79  WHIP 1.25

Player C: 6-7 3.74 WHIP 1.17

Player D: 5-6 4.75 WHIP 1.5

Player E: 9-8 3.79 WHIP 1.3

Player F: 13-2 4.08 WHIP 1.1

Other than F is there really a difference between the first five that’s worth trading away a potential all star outfielder, a 24 year old that already basically had a .300 30 100 season as a rookie or a 20 year old pitcher who is the best prospect the team has? Oh and the Yankees already have player F in Domingo German.

The other 5 are comparable for the most part, with slight variations. A is Noah Syndergaard,  B Masahiro Tanaka,  C James Paxton, D Madison Bumgarner and E Trevor Bauer. In all of these instances the upgrade is not worth the cost if Clint Frazier, Miguel Andujar or Deivi Garcia are part of the package.

The pitching hit a rough stretch coming out of the all-star break which is not uncommon, and most of the league is having a regression this year with the rumored to be juiced baseballs. If the market crashes and someone falls I to their lap then fine, but the Yankees should falling over themselves to add a starter. The talent level of what’s available isnt worth the price.

Domingo German’s injury may have been a blessing in disguise as his innings should not be an issue I to the post season. Masahiro Tanaka has consistently pitched better in the post season then the regular season, and the team still has Paxton who has had injuries like he always does but is still more talented than any of the available starters out there. If healthy CC Sabathia can provide 5 innings as a 4th starter and the team would still have J.A. Happ in reserve. Most other teams would be ecstatic to have this rotation.

Tomorrow will tell us where Brian Cashman thinks the team is but I will be shocked if they add any of the names being thrown around right now. With the deadline behind us fans can get back to what’s important. ..complaining about Gary Sanchez.
