New York Mets star outfielder Brandon Nimmo is trying to rally the franchise’s fanbase around the team for their upcoming four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies as the 2024 MLB playoffs loom.
Nimmo understands the moment at hand. The Mets (84-68) are back in playoff positioning as they hold the sixth and final Wild Card spot in the National League. They’ve been battling with the Atlanta Braves (82-70) for that spot since after the All-Star break. The Mets are winners of their last three games and are 6-4 in their last 10 contests.
Mets’ Brandon Nimmo wants fans to energize them for the series vs. the Phillies
There are few teams that have been on as much of a tear as the Mets since the month of June. They climbed out of a 22-33 hole to begin the year as of May 29, and are now primed to make a dark horse World Series push, but the season is far from over. With only 10 games left to go and the Braves nipping at their heels at only two games back in the standings, this next series against the NL-leading Phillies will be the ultimate test of the season for the Mets, which is why Nimmo wants Citi Field rocking starting on Thursday and all through the weekend.
Per SNY on X, Nimmo had this to say after New York’s 10-0 triumph over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday:
“We’re ready to go. This is gonna be playoff baseball and Mets fans, we need you guys to fill this place up,” Nimmo said. “This place needs to be rocking on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. We need your help. We need everybody to get out here, we need this place full. This is playoff baseball, this is what you guys want. Let’s go! Let’s go Mets!”
The Mets could position themselves to clinch a playoff berth after the series vs. the Phillies
The Mets run the risk of dropping back out of the postseason hunt if they lose the series to the Phillies. New York is 3-6 against Philadelphia on the year. The Phillies own a 39-35 record on the road in 2024, so there is a good chance that the Mets, who are 43-34 at Citi Field, defend their home field and get the surge they need heading into October.
Nimmo himself has been a vital part of the Mets’ attack all season long, and his 81 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and .735 OPS will be vital toward New York racking up total bases, and advancing runners on the bags. A series win for the Mets will put them one step closer to locking up a playoff berth. Mets fans, who are known for their undying support for the franchise in a city that plays tug-of-war between them and the New York Yankees, will also be vital in achieving such success during this final stretch of the year.
