As hard as the Atlanta Braves have made it on the 2022 New York Mets to run away with the NL East, the Mets have got to find a way to win it.
The atmosphere last night at Citi Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers was simply electric. It is clear Mets fans can make a difference for this special team. Come the ninth inning, if the Mets have the lead, the home-field advantage skyrockets even more.
Last night’s 2-1 victory for the Mets was highlighted by a few special moments. To start, against the best team in baseball, Jacob deGrom was himself. He pitched seven innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts.
For the second game in a row, Starling Marte hit a home run. His two-run homer provided the Mets with their only runs on the night.

Brandon Nimmo’s special catch makes the difference:
In deGrom’s final inning of his longest start yet, he got some incredible help from center fielder, Brandon Nimmo. With a one-run game in a matchup, they were hard to come by, with one out, Justin Turner hit one well off the bat to deep center field.
Nimmo tracked the ball exceptionally well, was not able to really even able to look at the wall, leaped at the perfect time, and just reeled it in his glove. The emotion that ensued from Gary Cohen, Nimmo, and Mets fans was priceless. The catch has to go down as one of the plays of the year.
Just two innings later, with a one-run lead and Timmy Trumpet in the house, the trumpets played on a peak level. The home-field advantage was fairly obvious for the Mets.
Even with Diaz set to face the meat of the Dodgers order in Trea Turner, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith, all three batters were retired. With Trumpet at Citi Field, Diaz was on his game, as usual, en route to his 29th save of the year.
