The New York Mets have many important players scheduled to be free agents this offseason. With the postseason nearing an end for the 2022 season, the start of free agency is right around the corner.
Some early reports are indicating that the Mets will have some strong competition on a few of their key free agents from one particular team.
- Mets struck gold with starting pitcher on team-friendly deal
- Mets may face competition to retain star slugging infielder
- Will Mets go all in to add second ace via trade?
The Boston Red Sox will reportedly show interest in multiple New York Mets:
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported that a few Mets could wind up with strong interest coming from the Boston Red Sox.
The three players in particular that Abraham highlighted from the Mets were Edwin Diaz, Brandon Nimmo, and Chris Bassitt.
Certainly, three of the Mets’ top players set to hit the market. Abraham did report that he does not expect the Red Sox to be in on Jacob deGrom, however.
It would, of course, be ideal that the Mets keep all four or at least close to all of these vital players. Ultimately though, as we are seeing very early in the process here with the Mets season just ending a week ago, it will be a difficult challenge to keep all of these core pieces.
Diaz should be the top priority for the Mets. Abraham did share that the Mets will probably make it tough for another team to ultimately offer him a bigger contract.
From there, whether deGrom and Bassitt want to stay is unknown. However, Nimmo should be another top priority for the Mets, along with Diaz. Unfortunately, he is someone that could help any team at the top of their order, especially the Red Sox.
