After failing to move up for Jaden Ivey, the New York Knicks traded out of the lottery and loaded up their draft capital for that big star trade down the road.

The Knicks selected Ousmane Dieng of New Zealand amid boos from their fans hoping for Ivey. A few minutes later, Dieng was announced to be going to Oklahoma City Thunder for multiple first-round picks, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the Knicks received three conditional first-round picks from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The picks are heavily protected: a top-14 protected Denver Nuggets’ first-round pick in 2023, the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons’ 2023 first-round selections that are both top-18 protected.

Ivey went to the Detroit Pistons at No. 5 after the Sacramento Kings held on to their pick and selected Keegan Murray at No. 4. The Knicks both offered to trade up for Kings and Pistons’ lottery picks but were rebuffed.
