The 2022 New York Jets took the field at One Jets Drive early this morning for their second training camp practice. It was a day headlined by the passing attack and pass rush from the defensive line. Top-draft pick Sauce Gardner was with the starters from the beginning of practice.

Big day from the defensive line

Today, no pads were worn during practice. As expected, it led to a productive day for the defensive line. The Jets pass rushers supposedly generated a ton of pressure throughout today’s practice. Third-year edge defender and gifted pass rusher Bryce Huff reportedly made his impact felt with a couple of would-be sacks. Also, John Franklin-Myers, Jacob Martin, and Vinny Curry generated some impactful pressures. Already, the Jets pass rushing depth is evident.

Young offensive talent produces for the New York Jets

Second-year quarterback Zach Wilson had a turnover-free day and a good practice. He was efficient on third down. Wilson battled through all of the pressure he was facing from the defensive line. The Zach Wilson to Elijah Moore connection was on display as the young duo enters their second year together. The two made a couple of big plays in today’s practice. Overall, it was a successful day for the Jets’ passing game.

Rookies Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson made plays today. Wilson had one impressive catch from Joe Flacco over the middle of the field. Hall made plays in both the run and pass game. With Wilson, it is great to already see his contested-catch ability on full display. With Hall, his patience, vision, one-cut ability, and speed have always made him an ideal fit for the Jets’ offense. It is exciting to see the two making splash plays so early.

Saleh, Davis, Carter, Uzomah, and McGovern meet with media

Following the second practice, along with head Robert Saleh, Michael Carter, Corey Davis, CJ Uzomah, and Connor McGovern were all made available to the media.

Saleh spoke about a few players: Zach Wilson, Uzomah, and Bryce Huff. Saleh stated Wilson is “progressing,” “comfortable”, and that his “arm talent is undeniable.” With Uzomah, Saleh had this to say, “CJ brings a tremendous amount of leadership to the group. Obviously, he’s a big body, he’s got size, plays physical, he’s really good in the run game.” On Huff, Saleh stated that he is a “really, really good pass rusher” and concluded by saying that he is “excited about him.”

Carter gave some exciting comments on the type of consistency he is looking for. He stated, “I want to be more consistent,” and name-dropped Jet great Curtis Martin and “how consistent he was,” which led to Hall of Fame success. Carter finished by stating, “What I want to be in life is one of the best. So, I think the main thing to improve on is my consistency.”

Davis mentioned to the media that he lost 10-15 pounds this offseason. Now, he is at about 205 pounds. Uzomah continues to make his presence and leadership obvious. On Wilson taking a Joe Burrow-type of second-year leap, Uzomah stated, “Not if. He will.” Lastly, McGovern said he sees Mekhi Becton’s conditioning “coming along” and that he is “definitely one of the luckiest centers in the league to have two guards like that” in Laken Tomlinson and Alijah Vera-Tucker.
