One of the few concerns leaving the big 31-10 win Sunday for the New York Jets was the unknown status of second-year running back, Michael Carter.
Carter, who left Sunday’s game early in the third quarter with an ankle injury, was doubtful to return and ultimately did not.
Initial reports suggested that the Jets were not “overly concerned” about the injury Carter sustained. And fortunately, they ended up getting some good news.
At his press conference late in the afternoon yesterday, head coach Robert Saleh announced that Carter is questionable for the week. Saleh said the team will go “day-to-day” with it and that he will have more information at his press conference tomorrow.
Ultimately, what is most important, though, is that Saleh made known that Carter does “have a chance to make it” for this Sunday. Certainly, some positive news.
On the specifics of Carter’s injury, Saleh stated that he suffered a low-ankle sprain and not a high-ankle sprain.
Since the loss of Breece Hall, the importance of Carter to this Jets offense has only increased. Especially with the injury concerns to recently-acquired running back, James Robinson. The group not only needs Carter’s leadership presence, but his on-field playmaking ability with other players hurt.
On the year, Carter has 99 rushing attempts (nine per game), 370 rushing yards (33.6 per game), is averaging 3.7 yards per run, and has three rushing touchdowns. Through the air, Carter has 28 catches for 209 yards (7.5 per catch). In total, he has accumulated 579 yards from scrimmage in 2022 (52.6 per game).
Carter is an underrated, key piece to this football team.
In other news, the other three players to leave the game Sunday, right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, linebacker Chazz Surratt, and safety Ashtyn Davis all happen to be in the same boat as Carter. The three are all questionable for this week, and the Jets will take a day-to-day approach with each one. Nothing too serious, as they all have a chance of going on Sunday.
