Connor McGovern is going into year three with the New York Jets after signing in free agency of 2020. He is entering year seven of his NFL career at 29 years old. Going into a contract year, McGovern is destined to have his best year as a Jet.

McGovern had a very solid 2021 for the Jets. He started 15 games and played 972 snaps. He earned a good PFF grade of 75.9. Four sacks were allowed by McGovern, but he did a steady job of keeping his penalty amount down to three. Overall, he proved himself well in the first year of a new scheme led by Mike LaFleur, one that suits McGovern greatly.
Skill set:
McGovern is tall at 6-foot-4 and has good size at 306 pounds. He is a skilled athlete who, as mentioned, fits the zone running scheme LaFleur designs. McGovern is an aggressive, tough, and physical football player. McGovern has proven himself as someone who is capable of minimizing penalties. Over the last three years, he has committed a total of six.
Projected role and 2022 expectations:
McGovern will be a reliable presence in the middle of the Jets’ offensive line at center for the third year in a row. He is a solid football player who can be a good asset to the Jets. Durability is a huge plus with McGovern. Over the last four years, he has started at least 15 games each season (over 950 snaps, at least 98% of his team’s offensive snaps). McGovern has proven himself as a tough player who has fought through injuries for the Jets.
He has the ability to keep mental mistakes down with the penalties he commits. McGovern was not penalized in 2019 and has had three in each of his first two years with the Jets. Expect it to be in that range once again in 2022. McGovern allowed one sack in 2019. He gave up six his first year as a Jet but was better last year with four. Ideally, that amount drops for him once again this season.
In both the run and pass game, McGovern can be a consistent contributor to the Jets’ offense. On paper, this is by far the best offensive line he has been a part of since being with the Jets. With Laken Tomlinson and Alijah Vera-Tucker next to him, it should only help lead to greater success for McGovern.

McGovern is a player on the Jets to feel good about. Now, being in year two of the offensive system, McGovern should be more comfortable. His durability, toughness, discipline, and athleticism are all there for him to be successful in 2022. In year three with the Jets, McGovern should play his best football yet and be a very good player for the Jets.
