The New York Jets will be without defensive lineman Al Woods for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season due to a torn Achilles.

Head coach Robert Saleh started off his press conference on Monday by announcing Woods’ injury status:
Woods sustained the injury in the first half of the Jets’ 13-10 victory over the New York Giants. Woods was carted off of the field and his expression spoke to the severity of his ailment.
Woods signed a one-year, $2.25 million deal with Gang Green on May 11. He earned that contract off of a 2022 season with the Seattle Seahawks which saw him go for two sacks, one defended pass, and five tackles for loss.
Through Week 8, Woods recorded two quarterback hits and one sack. Pro Football Focus gave him a player grade of 54.0 on the year. This was the first season since 2012 that Woods went without starting a single game in the regular season.
The Jets are dealing with several other injuries. Starting center Connor McGovern is out with a dislocated kneecap and guard Wes Schweitzer has been placed on IR with a calf injury.
New York (4-3) will continue on with a defense that has struggled against the run (1,014 rush yards allowed) but has fared well against the pass.
