The preseason is usually the first chance that fans in the NFL have to see their teams and how they’ve changed over the offseason. New additions get time on the field with their new teams for the first time, rookies take center stage, and hidden gems compete to make the roster. However, this year, the New York Giants and the rest of the league as a whole may not play the preseason.

The NFL is bouncing back from a pandemic along with the rest of the country, and while the regular season is set to happen as planned, the preseason could end up a casualty. The cause is most likely the scheduling, with training camp set to start during the last week of July. With that timing, there’s not long to train for and participate in a preseason during the month of August leading up to a September season.

The NFLPA has already voted against the idea of holding a preseason this year, following the previous decision by the league and the player’s association to cut the preseason down from the normal four games to two.

According to sources that spoke with the Associated Press, the league is set to discuss the concerns that the player’s association has about playing the preseason.

The four people spoke on condition of anonymity because the league and the union haven’t reached an agreement.

With no consensus yet from the league and player’s association, it remains to be seen what will happen with the preseason. But from the looks of things, any players depending on those two games to prove themselves to the coaching staff may just be out of luck – and Giants fans may have to wait until September to see how the team looks under Joe Judge. With training camp starting in late July, after all, the timeline for the preseason is far from comfortable right now.
