What New York Giants Acquisition Nate Stupar Brings To The Defense

It seems as if bolstering the defensive line and linebacker corps was the priority for the New York Giants this offseason, and the signing of LB Nate Stupar only seconds that testament. The former New Orleans Saints defense-man suffered a torn ACL in 2017, but has shown quite the return throughout preseason.

He finished the preseason on a high note, but it still seemed as if the Saints were looking elsewhere for support. His performance didn’t go unnoticed as the Giants swooped in and claimed him rather quickly to bolster the middle of the defense.

What’s there to like about Stupar for the Giants?

The linebacker provides solid value as a player that can play close to the line of scrimmage and get after the quarterback, as well as drop back in coverage and play “spy.” He’s good at watching the quarterbacks eyes and undercutting routes in the middle of the field.

When Stupar started in 2015-2016, he recorded 25 and 29 tackles respectively. While those aren’t mind-blowing numbers, they came primarily as a rotational/reserve piece. He can fill in for injury or to give the starters a rest, which will be his primary usage with the Giants in 2018.

The Giants haven’t named which player will be released to fit Stupar on the 53-man roster.
