Lorenzo Carter:

Another pass rusher that may feature a breakout season in 2020 is Lorenzo Carter. The former 2018 third-round pick is coming off of two mediocre seasons. Over this period, he combined for 8.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 14 starts. This start to his career was a disappointment for the Georgia alum as he and the Giants were hoping his freakish athleticism would translate to more on-field production. His 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame combined with his 4.46 40-yard-dash and 36-inch vertical are intangibles few other edge rushers possess. Unfortunately for New York, over his first two seasons, Carter did not efficiently use his god-given talent.

However, Carter is looking to change all of this going into the 2020 season. With a new and improved system under Patrick Graham, Lorenzo Carter has been showing major improvements. Many believe his growth was halted last year under James Bettcher and that this season is the year where Zo can finally put it all together.

“They were fundamentally inept under Bettcher,’’ former Giants All-Pro linebacker, Carl Banks, said. “I don’t think that will be the case in this defense under Patrick Graham. They’re going to be very demanding. But in order to become a Giants linebacker, which I think Lorenzo should and is very capable of, he’s going to have to demand even more of himself.’’

Carter’s self-motivation was shown in Big Blue’s latest scrimmage, where he posted 4.5 sacks, tying his total from last year. It was reported that he was all over the place and could not be contained as he also forced a fumble from Daniel Jones. The franchise is hoping this tremendous performance is not a fluke as the team hopes Carter turns into someone that is relied upon this season.
