While arguments could be made that the New York Giants should pursue Teddy Bridgewater and Nick Foles in free agency next season, it would be foolish and pedantic to consider those two options realistic. Why? Because the New Orleans Saints spent a third-round pick on Bridgewater as an insurance policy for Drew Brees, and it’s unlikely they will allow him to walk, and if there’s any indication that he could succeed Brees, I would fully expect him to stay with the team for the extended future.
In regard to Foles, he would earn a bit more than Eli Manning currently (over $20 million), and would put the Giants in salary-cap trouble down the road. He’s a talented player with playoff experience, but it seems as if GM Dave Gettleman is trying to piece together a youthful team instead of filling holes with expensive solutions.

The two options that generally make the most sense are — retain Eli Manning for one more season, or draft Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State.
Haskins had a phenomenal year, finishing third in the Heisman polls. He threw for 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns. Additionally, he had an impressive completion percentage of 70.2%. To put that into perspective, Manning never broke 64% in college and never threw for over 3,600 yards or 31 touchdowns. Haskins has him beat in every category, but we also know that talent doesn’t always transfer to the NFL level.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback has fantastic foot-work and fundamentals. Being that he’s going into his junior year, some might think that he’s too raw to join the NFL in the upcoming draft. But, you could make the argument that it’s the perfect time with Manning’s career hanging in the balance. Bringing him back for one more season and preparing Haskins behind him is the ideal scenario. Especially since the Giants have the No.6 pick in the 2019 draft, they’re well within striking range for the signal caller, as the teams ahead already have their franchise quarterbacks. The only thing they must be wary of is other teams jumping them to secure a higher pick.
In addition to what could be a good match for the Giants, Haskins is a huge fan of Big Blue and has been in touch with players like Odell Beckham Jr.
There’s no question that Haskins would bring a fire and passion at the quarterback position that hasn’t been seen in quite some time. The fact that Manning had a peculiar season finale pre-game warmup – he brought his family on the field and took pictures – it’s possible even he knows what the future holds for the future Hall of Famer.
