The New York Giants‘ season has been presumed over for a few weeks now. The Giants were 2-8 heading into their Week 11 bye week. In Week 12, New York will travel to Chicago to take on the Chicago Bears’ strong defense. This will be a tough matchup for the Giants, and it could also be their last game with any meaning in the 2019 season.

The Giants have a chance of being officially eliminated from the playoffs this Sunday. It could be another season that the Giants have no playoff hopes or aspirations once again heading into December.

How The Giants Could Be Eliminated

The Giants are one loss, and one rival team win away from being officially eliminated. In order for the Giants to be officially eliminated from playoff contention, they have to lose to the Bears on Sunday, and the Dallas Cowboys have to beat the New England Patriots.

The Chicago Bears are the favorites to win this Sunday, understandably. However, the Patriots are also the favorite to win their matchup with the Cowboys. The Giants could live to see another week “in the hunt,” but their days are numbered as the Eagles and Cowboys ready for a fight for the division title.

The Giants Are Used To This

Every team should be embarrassed to be eliminated from the playoffs in November. But the Giants are probably starting to get used to it. New York has missed the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons. This will undoubtedly increase to seven of the last eight this year.

Last year, though, the Giants’ season did last a little longer. In 2018, New York was officially eliminated from the playoffs in Week 15. While the Giants might not be eliminated this week, there is a slim chance they make it to Week 15. Another sign of regression from Pat Shurmur and Dave Gettleman’s team.

The 2017 New York Giants also did not live to fight in December. The Giants were eliminated from the playoffs on November 26th that season.

Losing is normal for the New York Giants. The once proud and competitive Giants have fallen into years of embarrassment with no end in sight.
