The Denver Broncos are in a bit of a pickle with star corner, Chris Harris. He’s demanding an extension and the Broncos aren’t biting, yet. Could this be an opportunity for the New York Giants to trade for the talented defender? Potentially… especially if they’re looking to let Janoris Jenkins go in 2020.

Jenkins’ cap-hit will be just $3.5 million in 2020, which bodes well for the Giants if they’re looking to replace him for a variety of potential reasons – poor play, age, a simple change. However, having a player of his quality on such a low cap hit might be beneficial. The Giants could potentially add Harris to the mix with their plethora of cap space – anticipating over $90 million.

What would Chris Harris bring to the New York Giants:

Let’s get one thing out of the way – compensation for a potential trade. The Broncos would likely snag a third-round pick for Harris given he plans to hold out until his contract is over if they don’t extend him on a massive deal. He’s seeking $15 million-per-year, which would make him the highest paid corner in the NFL.

Adding him to the secondary would solidify a weak Giants’ unit for the next few years. Keeping Jenkins past 2020 could also be reasonable given his price tag isn’t astronomical.

Last season, Harris collected 10 pass defended and three interceptions, one of which he ran back for a touchdown. His coverage abilities are premium, justifying his elevated price tag, and making him enticing for the Giants.

However, Arizona Cardinals corner Patrick Peterson could also be on the trading block. Reports of him being unhappy in Arizona have bubbled to the surface, which indicates a potential deal in the near future. He would likely cost a team a player and a few draft picks, but he’s on the of the best cornerbacks in the NFL on a team-friendly deal. He’s a free agent in 2021, so bringing him on might be too pricey for the Giants considering the current state of the team, but he’d surely be beneficial.
