With the sixth pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Daniel Jones. When a player is selected sixth overall, there will be plenty of expectations out of the gate. Remember when Odell Beckham Jr. missed the first four games of his rookie season with a hamstring injury? Fans and media were calling him a bust and that the Giants were dumb to have picked such a short wide receiver. Look how that turned out?

My point is this: Daniel Jones wasn’t drafted to start day one for the Giants. He was chosen to be the successor to the best QB in New York Giants franchise history, Eli Manning. He is going to have up and downs throughout training camp and in preseason games. This is completely normal especially for a rookie QB learning a new playbook and adjusting to NFL schemes that they’ve never seen before.

So if Jones struggles in-game/practices or throws a horrible interception, don’t call him a bust. The average fan and reporter must understand the this is all apart of the development of the next franchise QB.

It’s going to be a difficult task for Jones to win over the crowd as he has received the worst press a draft pick has gotten in recent memory. All I know is I will be rooting harder than ever for the kid to succeed and prove everyone wrong.

Remember, Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin were once on the hot seat in NY tabloids that begged them to get out of town. The Giants seem to have been the underdog in their last two Super Bowl runs, now they have the future of their franchise facing the same fate.
