With the New York Giants down against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week three of the regular season, rookie passer Daniel Jones stepped up and led his team on a historic drive. Some may forget, teammate Daria Slayton was a significant part of that game-winning drive and help the Giants secure their first win of the season.

A 21-yard completion to Slayton set the Giants up at the Bucs’ 49-yard line. It was one of three big grabs for Darius on the day; the 6-foot-1 wideout led the team of 27.3 yards per catch and his debut. It already seems as if Slayton and Jones have great chemistry and will be connecting early and often in the future. His deep play threat and straightaway speed give him a DeSean Jackson type of skill set.

“I think just because we came from Day 1 from rookie camp,” Slayton said after Wednesday’s practice, as per the Trentonian. “From rookie camp all the way up and then we did all OTAs pretty much, because we were both kind of second-team repping back then, so I had a lot of reps from then. And then even when we first got back in training camp before I got hurt I had chances to get some reps, and I feel like that’s just carried on to this point.”

The New York Giants are preparing to unleash their underrated draft selection:

The fifth-round pick missed a majority of the preseason in the first two games with hamstring injuries. With those concerns alleviated and his health at 100%, he can finally begin to leave an impact every week.

The Giants brass is also very high on the pass catcher. Head coach Pat Shurmur was confident that Slayton would be a big part of the offense and he ultimately was a deciding factor against the Bucs — he stated, “we believe in him.”

Slayton didn’t hesitate to praise his teammates as well, especially on tight end Evan Engram’s 75-yard touchdown catch and run.

“He was rolling,” Slayton said of Engram. “I turned, I blocked the dude and then I turned again and he was five yards past me — the other way — and I was like, ‘Wow, you can fly.’ That’s the first time I’ve ever seen him run like that. It was an impressive play for sure.”

Not only does Slayton seem to be a useful option no the field, but he’s a good locker room presence that can enjoy the ups but weather the downs. He will be an instrumental part of the offense moving forward and a significant target for Daniel Jones.
