A significant portion of the New York Giants‘ struggles over the past few years can be attributed to their offensive front, and while GM Dave Gettleman has poured resources into its fixing, they have failed to make strides forward.

One of the more underrated factors regarding the development of the front five is the offensive line coach, and Hal Hunter, who was in charge of the Giants’ unit over the past two seasons, failed to build a cohesive group, landing in the bottom tier of the league.

According to Football Outsiders, the Giants’ line ranked 25th in the league, which doesn’t indicate any progression. Gettleman’s drafting of Will Hernandez, signing of Nate Solder, Mike Remmers, and the trading for Kevin Zeitler should have contributed in some way towards the unit’s growth, but some would even say they’ve regressed.

The New York Giants are in the market for a new assistant coach:

With the firing of Hunter, the Giants are in the market for a new OL coach, and there’s one highly coveted option available. Former Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins OL coach, Bill Callahan, is the top option, and with Joe Judge hiring Jason Garrett as the team’s offensive coordinator, Callahan coming to New York is realistic.

While Garrett’s relationship with Callahan might seem like a positive thing, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports the opposite.

There has been some question over whether he’d be willing to work with Garrett, since there was reportedly friction between the two of them during Callahan’s final days as Garrett’s offensive coordinator in Dallas in 2014. Whether the two would be willing to work together again depends on who is asked. Some sources say they have put their differences behind them and a reunion could be possible.

Adding Callahan would be a considerable victory for Judge, but other teams are also interested in his services.
