Leonard Williams is the big name free agent on defense this year for the New York Giants, and there’s a lot of speculation over whether the team will keep him. It’s not going to be cheap to re-sign Williams after his big season gave him more leverage to get paid, but most fans will want to see Williams back due to his impact on the pass rush. According to a report from ESPN, the team is planning to do just that and bring him back.

Jeremy Fowler claims that the team is likely to make a strong effort to keep the player.

I continue to hear the Giants will put forth a strong effort to keep Williams, who broke out with 11.5 sacks and 30 quarterback hits. Williams likes the way DC Patrick Graham got him loose with stunts and tilted fronts. Keep the party rolling with a big payday before the new league year. If that doesn’t happen, Williams will have plenty of suitors after realizing his enormous potential in 2020.

Williams had more sacks in his first year under Patrick Graham than he did during any other year in his career. And of course, his performance was a massive jump up from his first year in New York. Some have speculated that the Giants won’t be able to keep Williams as other teams will come with more attractive offers. But that largely depends on where the priorities are for the Giants.

If the Giants make a point of trying to re-sign Williams, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to get him back another year. But they may just have to give up other talent such as Dalvin Tomlinson, who himself has an unclear future with the team due to his contract.
