New York Giants Receive Good News On The Injury Front

With the exception of a few bumps and bruises that tend to keep the veterans out of practice during the earlier portion of the week, the New York Giants are set to bring back two influential players.

Starting cornerback, Eli Apple, suffered a groin injury in week 2 against the Cowboys. He’s missed the last two games which has forced B.W. Webb into a bigger role, on that he handled well against Houston but fell off against the Saints. Luckily for the Giants, it’s looking like they will get their No.2 man back for week 5 against the Panthers. He was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice. This is a good sign considering he was limited for half of last week as well.

If all goes well, Apple will start at corner against Cam Newton and what seems to be an underwhelming receiving corps.

Additionally, outside linebacker Olivier Vernon is also expected to return on week 5, which would mark his regular season debut after he suffered a high-ankle sprain during the pre-season. His presence should provide a huge boost to a pass-rush that only recorded one sack and two quarterback hurries in Week 4 against Drew Brees.

Vernon’s return has been a long time coming. If he can provide a jolt to the Giants’ defense, which is expected, it might be just what they need to help force some much-needed turnovers to give the offense opportunities.

Other New York Giants injuries:

OLB – Connor Barwin

Barwin did not practice due to an undisclosed knee injury. This is likely just maintenance related as he’s a seasoned veteran and does not need to extra practice snaps that some of the youngsters require.

WR – Sterling Shepard

The Giants’ slot receiver had a cyst removed from his back, but he should be back on the field within a day or so.

TE – Evan Engram

Engram is still dealing with a sprained MCL, which will force him out for at least one more week. Expect to see him log some limited practice later next week, but I would be cautiously optimistic in regard to him returning in week 6.
